Ideas sought for market hall creative hub plan

by Jack

A council has said it wants input into its plans for a creative quarter planned as part of a £3.5m revamp of a town's market.

Colne Market Hall, which is undergoing a major transformation, will have a new market, food court and bar when it opens later this year.

Pendle Council said it was considering setting up a creative hub with artists' studios, workshops and a co-working area on the first floor.

Phillip Spurr, director of place at the authority, said "exciting new plans" were taking shape and invited artists and other creative people who might want to be involved to share their ideas.

The survey, which must be completed by 18 May, asks artists about the idea of using the first floor of the market as a creative studios and selling their art in pop-up stalls in the market itself.

Artists and craftspeople are also being asked if they think a space upstairs for classes such as painting, pottery, life drawing, knitting and crafting should be included in the plans.
